“Heatiness” or “internal fire” (Shang Huo, 上火) is a common health issue in traditional Chinese culture, classified under “heat syndromes” (热症) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

According to TCM theory, when the body’s Yin and Yang are imbalanced and internal fire becomes excessive, symptoms of heatiness appear.
Drinking “Crane’s Cool Brew” helps clear heat and reduce internal fire, restoring balance to the body.

Common Signs of Heatiness

  • Oral issues: Mouth ulcers, swollen or painful gums, sore throat.
  • Skin issues: Acne, redness, or dryness of the skin.
  • Digestive issues: Constipation, dry mouth and tongue, poor appetite.
  • Emotional symptoms: Irritability, restlessness, insomnia, or vivid dreams.

Two Types of Internal Fire: True Fire and Deficiency Fire

  • True Fire (Excess Heat):
Caused by excessive Yang energy. Symptoms include high fever, thirst, and constipation — signs of “excess heat.”
  • Deficiency Fire (Yin Deficiency Heat):
Caused by insufficient Yin energy, leading to low-grade fever, hot palms and soles, and night sweats — signs of “deficiency heat.”

While herbal cooling teas can effectively relieve heatiness and ease discomfort, they cannot completely resolve deficiency fire caused by Yin deficiency. To address such underlying imbalances, one must nourish Yin and restore internal harmony through proper tonifying and restorative care.
